Patient Questions
Common questions patients ask after their visit.
Do I need every product listed on this website?
No. This website is a reference guide. Only use the products that were recommended for your specific needs during your appointment.
What if I cannot remember which product Charmaine recommended?
Start with your printed recommendation sheet. It will show the category or product we discussed. You can then use this website to learn more.
Is a water flosser a replacement for regular floss?
For many patients, a water flosser is a great addition, especially around implants, bridges, braces, or deeper gum pockets. However, some patients still need regular floss or interdental brushes depending on their teeth.
Why do I need a different toothpaste for sensitivity?
Sensitivity toothpaste and remineralizing products are designed to support enamel and help calm sensitive areas over time. They work best when used consistently.
Why does dry mouth increase cavity risk?
Saliva helps protect teeth by washing away food, neutralizing acids, and supporting a healthy oral environment. When the mouth is dry, cavity risk can increase.
Can I use BURST products with your VIP code?
Yes. For BURST products, use VIP code CHARVIP at checkout.
Can I use my HSA or FSA for these products?
Some oral care products may be eligible depending on your plan. Check with your HSA/FSA provider for details.
How often should I replace my toothbrush or brush head?
Replace your toothbrush or electric brush head about every 3 months, or sooner if the bristles look worn.
Which product should I start with?
Start with the products we discussed during your appointment. You do not need everything on this website.
What if I still have questions?
Bring your recommendation sheet to your next visit, or ask me during your hygiene appointment. I'm always happy to help.
About Charmaine
Hi! I'm Charmaine.
I believe patient education is one of the most important parts of dental care. My goal is to help every patient feel confident caring for their smile, not just during their appointment, but every day at home.
I was born and raised on the beautiful island of Maui, Hawaii, where I learned the importance of kindness, community, and treating people like family. Those values continue to shape the way I care for my patients today, and I strive to make every patient feel welcomed, heard, and cared for.
Before becoming a dental hygienist, I proudly served in the United States Navy for 14 years as a Hospital Corpsman. Caring for service members and their families gave me a strong foundation in compassion, patient care, and education.
One of the greatest opportunities of my military career was being selected by the Navy to attend the Dental Hygiene Program at Pensacola State College. I graduated Cum Laude in 2021, combining my passion for healthcare with preventive dentistry and patient education.
Today, my favorite part of being a dental hygienist isn't just cleaning teeth, it's helping patients leave feeling confident about taking care of their smiles at home. I believe great oral health doesn't have to be complicated. Small, consistent habits, and the right tools, can make a lasting difference.
I created The Smile Edit because one of the most common things I hear from patients is:
"I can't remember the name of that product you recommended."
I wanted to create a place where you could easily revisit our conversations, learn more about the products we discussed, and feel confident caring for your smile long after your appointment is over.
My philosophy is simple:
- Education first.
- Recommendations second.
- No pressure.
- Just honest guidance based on what I would recommend to my own family and friends.
Thank you for trusting me to be part of your oral health journey.
🤍 Keep smiling,
Charmaine
